16/02/09: Learning Futures

Gene is looking forward to starting work with the Learning Futures team to support schools in developing and testing new models of pedagogical practice that better meet the needs and aspirations of teachers and young people in the 21st Century.

Secondary schools will be asked to develop proposals to put into practice the four key Learning Futures principles (which have been derived from the underpinning principles of Musical Futures):

  • Ensuring relevance of learning (for young people themselves)
  • Co-constructing the curriculum and pedagogy (with young people)
  • Valuing and incorporating learning experiences and processes both in and out of school contexts
  • Varying the learner /teacher mix, recognising the value of a much wider range of roles than the traditional teacher-pupil relationship and power dynamic

The Paul Hamlyn Foundation is working closely with the Innovation Unit to take forward the Learning Futures initiative. Find out more about Learning Futures
